CAMILLE MELVEY'S OLYMPIC GAMES SELECTION CAMPAIGN

Profile on Camille

In the last week Camille has had some fantastic results showing continued improvement towards her goals:

Saturday 17th November 2001, 5km Classical, Bruksvallarna, Sweden For full results click here., FIS points TBA:

* 1st Lina Andersson, Sweden , 13:37.3

* 29th Camille Melvey, Australia, 15:58.7, 17.03%

Sunday 18th November 2001, 10km Skate, Bruksvallarna, Sweden For full results click here FIS points TBA:

* 1st Lina Andersson, Sweden, 27:57.9

* 27th Camille Melvey, Australia, 32:35.0, 16.5%

The FIS points for Camille's first races (full details reported in report 1- full results click here have come through, due to the near world cup level competition Camille had a tough first race (5km Cl, Sat. 10th Nov.), with FIS points being 187.81. The 5km Skate on Sunday the 11th November was much improved result, 141.72 FIS points. The Sunday result shows Camille's ability to make the dramatic improvements that will be required for her to gain World Cup selection and then in World Cups make Olympic games selection.

On Monday 12th Camille travelled to Sweden to prepare herself for the next races in Bruksvallarna on the Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th November. The travel left Camille feeling somewhat flat for much of the week. However her performances in the races on the weekend did not suffer. The Saturday race against some of Swedens best skiers and some hot times, saw a much improved result from the classical event in Finland for Camille. Camille skiied very strongly on Sunday and posted a very fast time and an even better result than Saturday. Based on quick hand calculations of Camille's FIS points both races saw improvements from Finland respective to their discipline (ie: Classical and Skate). With the improvement in performance in every race raced we can look forward to the next races on the 1st and 2nd of December in Saerna (5km Cl) and Idre (7.5km Sk) (Sweden) respectively to show further improvement.

NSW TEAM CAMPAIGN

In the Jindabyne Marathon 5km fun run event held on Saturday the 17th Ben Sim and Chris Darlington showed that they were ready to take on the competition when they hit northern snow on the 30th November. Ben won the event in a very good time of 17:38 and Chris was a close second in 17:55. Both athletes have been training very hard around school and work and we can expect further great results from them this northern winter.
