The Skiing Australia Cross Country Committee met on June 24 to review the National Team Selection Policy. While some sections of the policy concerning international teams need further review and will be finalised during the season, some changes will take affect for the current Australian season.
Important changes include
The National rankings and 2000/2001 Australian team selection will be taken from the best two races regardless of style. The four selection races remain the same; two classic and two freestyle races for both seniors and juniors, as detailed on the 2000 race calendar.
A FIS point selection standard will be introduced for the 2001 World Championships in Lahti Finland
A selection standard will be set for the 2001 World Junior Championships in Karpacz, Poland. This standard may be based on FIS points, however other options will be considered.
The Australian Sprint Championships will be not be added as a selection race for 2000, however the progress of the sprint events will be closely monitored. Exceptional "sprinters" who do not make the team through conventional selection races may have the possibility of post-selection to teams. Time trials will be conducted overseas to ensure the best sprinters have a start in major international competitions.
Inquiries regarding the selection policy should be directed to Finn Marsland, National Team Coach, on 02 6214 7940 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
