May 11 - XC Happenings in MayMt Beauty 1/2 Marathon + Fun Runs
On May 22 on the weekend of the Mt Beauty 1/2 Marathon and associated fun run events there are a number of cross country skiing related activities taking place. In line with the tradition of recent years the Victorian Junior Squad is holding a training camp on the weekend and many of the National Team skiers will also be in town. In and around their training sessions several new activities will take place that are open to any interested cross country skiers and to the general public. Those interested in entering in the 1/2 Marathon, 10km and 3km fun run events can do so on-line at this address: For information on the other events read on below...1000m Ski Erg Australian Record
The "Ski Erg" is a double pole machine made by Concept II and has a similar flywheel set-up to the rowing machines. Standing in front of the flywheel you pull down on straps in the same manner that you would while double poling on skis, receiving feedback on the power you are generating and the virtual metres that you travel. On the Ski Erg website world record times for 1000m are listed and this weekend will see first official attempts made by Australian athletes. The unofficial records are currently held by Nick Grimmer (otherwise known as the elusive Nick Grimmer) for men and by Australian Team junior athlete Lucy Glanville for women. Several Ski Ergs will be on display while the 1/2 marathon is on, and then between 1:00 PM and 2:30 PM anyone is welcome to try their hand at the titles. Prizes are being supplied by Concept II and the National Team.Ski Cross Country Victoria Open Forum
The recent Autumn meeting of SXCV at Euroa decided to increase the number of meetings per year from 2 to 4. The traditional Spring and Autumn meetings in Euroa will remain as the decision making meetings. It was resolved to build on the experience of an open discussion forum held in Melbourne last February and hold two such meetings annually. One will be held in Melbourne in late February and the second in Mount Beauty in May ... on the Saturday of the Mt Beauty Half Marathon. While intended to give skiers from the metropolitan and north east regions an opportunity to come together to share ideas and discuss the future development of the sport, they are of course open to all skiers from all regions. The forum will be held at the Hoppet Hall, next to the Visitor Information Centre at 3.00 PM.2010 Winter Olympic Team Presentation
On the Saturday night members of the Australian Winter Olympic Team in Vancouver will share their experiences from the games with the assistance of video footage and pictures. The presentation will be held at the Hoppet Hall (adjacent to the Mt Beauty Information Centre and Hoppet Office) at 7:30 PM. It is anticipated that it will last until 9:00 PM, with supper provided afterwards. Entry is free and open to everyone. If anyone needs any additional information please email to Allan Marsland on marso @ westnet.com.au or to Finn Marsland on finn.marsland @ gmail.com
