Updating Policy

The Australian Coaching Council (ACC) requires that all coaches update their accreditation every four years. Updating ensures that:

· Coaches stay abreast of rule changes in their sport

· The coaching environment is safe for all participants
· Skiing Australia and the ACC have an up to date register of active coaches

Skiing Australia Cross Country ( SAXC) has set the following updating requirements under ACC guidelines. It requires that registered coaches participate in practical coaching and in a variety of continuing education activities.

Of these hours up to 50% can come from practical coaching. This includes actively coaching during dry-land and on-snow sessions, providing race support at competitions, coaching at training camps, and serving as a coach on overseas tours.

The remaining hours must come from educational update activities as outlined below.

All activities cannot be completed in one year. Ideally, they should be spread out over four. They must be undertaken in at least two years (this can be negotiated in special circumstances.

UPDATING PROCEDURE

To have your accreditation updated, you must have documented your activities in your log book and have them verified by an authorised person. If you do not have a log book, written documentation of your coaching activities will suffice. You should make sure to indicate which activities are practical coaching and which are educational.

EXPIRED ACCREDITATION

To regain your accreditation, you will be required to complete appropriate updating activities. In some cases coaches are required to re-do the relevant coaching course. Coaches whose accreditation has expired will need to contact Skiing Australia Cross Country to find out which requirements are necessary to become re-registered.
