Organisation: Birkebeiner Nordic Ski Club. The events will
run according to the FIS Rules For Popular Cross Country Races.
Events: 42km Kangaroo Hoppet; 21km Australian Birkebeiner; 7km
Joey Hoppet.
Start: 9.30am, Saturday 25th August, 2007 at the Falls Creek
Nordic Bowl.
Technique: Freestyle. Classical tracks will be set
Course: The 42km course is a figure of eight with the
start/finish area also being the halfway mark. A 3 hour cut off time
will apply to the first 21km of the 42km course. No competitors
will be allowed to continue past the 21km point of the course after
this time. A second cut off of 3.5 hours after the start will apply
at the 24.5 km mark (Sun Valley Turnaround). No skier will be allowed
past this point after this time.
Classes: Age is taken as on 31st December 2006.
The 42km Kangaroo Hoppet race is open to all skiers born in 1988 or before. The 21km Australian Birkebeiner is open to all skiers born in 1992 or before. The 7km Joey Hoppet is open to all skiers, however young children should be accompanied by an adult.
Details of payment: All entry forms should be accompanied by a cheque, money order or credit card authorisation. All payments must be in Australian Dollars.
Race Office: The Race Office is located in the Sports Tourism Cluster, next to the Alpine Discovery Centre, on the left side of the Highway as you approach Mount Beauty.
Start Numbers: Bibs can be collected from the Race Office in Mount Beauty from Friday August 17th. On Friday August 24th, the Race Office will remain open until midnight and will reopen at 6.00am on the day of the race. Race bibs will not be available at Falls Creek.
Safety: The event is run on the Bogong High Plains, which is a wilderness area without roads. Competitors must be prepared for sudden changes in weather conditions. Windproof and waterproof outer garments should be carried (in a bumbag or small pack) and worn if necessary. Should the weather imply too great a risk for skiers, the organisers hold the right to change, postpone or cancel the race at short notice in view of skier safety.
